Event Details
In celebration of Heritage Week 2026, the Mission Museum presents Filling the Pantry: Unwrapping Food Packaging History, a virtual exhibit that explores the ways in which food packaging and advertising both shape and reflect our Canadian culture.
This online exhibit complements the in-person Filling the Pantry pop-up exhibit, a collaboration with The Mission Community Archives now on display at the Mission Leisure Centre throughout February.
The virtual exhibition features a curated collection of food packaging artifacts spanning seven decades (1910s to the 1980s), including a wooden cheese box and packaging from products made locally in Mission, BC. These items provide a tangible connection to the Fraser Valley’s consumerist past.
Together, the online and in-person exhibitions trace the evolution of food packaging and grocery shopping in Mission, reflecting broader social and economic changes in the community and across Canada over the past century.
