Join the Team!

At the Mission Museum we have many varied opportunities for volunteers both young and old, whether you can help out for a few hours a week, or just pop in here and there. If you are looking for work experience, social connection or just want to share your skills, we have something just right for you!
Come and get involved!

We are actively looking to fill the following positions, preferably on Thursday and Friday afternoons:

Collections Assistant – Work with our artifact collection including: assigning and applying museum catalogue numbers, conservation and preservation work, records-management, object handling, display and storage techniques, research and dating of unknown artifacts. 2-4 hours per week.

Exhibit Support – Assisting the manager in producing in-house as well as community-based exhibits will include searching our collection database to find appropriate items to suggest for chosen exhibit themes, writing exhibit labels using manager’s guidance, sourcing and securing new locations for community exhibits, and assisting the manager with scheduling and installing of said exhibits.  This individual should be comfortable communicating with members of the community in person, on the phone as well as in email, as such needs arise. 2-3 hours per week including some off-site work.

Social Media Coordinator – Organize and schedule content for posting on our facebook, twitter and instagram pages, create useful hashtags to accompany posts, compile monthly analytics, and grow our social media network by liking, following or interacting with other relevant pages in a meaningful way. 2-3 hours per week.

Communications and Public Outreach – Maintain Museum listings on various web-based directories including updating public hours, listing upcoming programs, exhibits and events and adding relevant photos.  Deliver and maintain level of rack cards to local community spaces and relevant organizations and distribute posters for upcoming programs and events throughout town when required.  Seek new avenues to network via social media, online directories, and new possible memberships to relevant outside organizations.  2-hour weekly shifts plus up to 2 hours offsite during busier programming months.

Collections Photographer – Take photographs of objects within the Museum collection for use in our internal and online database and on our social media pages.  Basic photography knowledge, including how to shoot manually with a DSLR, and photoshop skills are required.  To ensure the safety of our collection this volunteer will undergo full collections handling training before photography will commence.  Published photographs will retain photographer’s credit and final images may be used in artist’s portfolio. 2-4 hours per week.
